Dr. Juan-Antonio Carballo has spent his entire adult life innovating to improve people's lives. Born in Madrid, Spain, he has lived, studied, and worked in three continents. Having arrived in America 20 years ago, he settled down in San Francisco's District 2 for the last 10 years. He lives with his wife and two children, who are born and raised right here, and is an avid bicyclist and public transit user.

Juan-Antonio has a long, distinguished career as a scientist, inventor, and business leader. He is currently a Sr. Account Executive at Broadcom, where he commercializes Silicon chips that power much of the world's Internet and mobile networks. He is also an Angel Investor primarily focused on local clean-energy start-ups, within Silicon Valley's oldest group, the Band of Angels; and is a mentor to many individuals who want to change the world based on their ideas. Prior to these roles, he had co-founded an international VC firm, Argon Venture Partners, and had other business leadership roles.

Earlier in his career, Juan-Antonio spent the better part of 10 years at IBM, starting as a scientist in their Research Laboratories, where he successfully mentored several promising women and minority individuals to pursue long term careers in the field. He has been granted about 40 patents, written a widely available engineering book, and written numerous articles for prestigious scientific, technical, and business publications. His ideas have led to products used in people's everyday lives.

Juan-Antonio's work has also helped human beings successfully collaborate and partner. He holds a Ph.D. in engineering collaboration software; he created first-time partnership initiatives around open computer platforms; he led the first quantified Silicon chip roadmap in the industry; and he helped dozens of companies succeed at their early stages. He continues to sit in worldwide, multi-ethnic committees to further improve the world through the use of science and technology.

He has received numerous awards for his scientific Research, for his partnership ideas, and for his VC work, including being named Number One “Top 40 Under 40“ by American Venture Magazine. He has personally delivered hundreds of millions of dollars in investments and in product revenue.  He is also board member / co-founder of the two main social and professional Spanish Associations in the San Francisco / Bay Area.  

Dr. Carballo is proficient in five world languages and many software languages. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, an M.B.A. from CDI (Paris), and a M.Sc. in Telecommunications from UPM (Madrid).
